BRASÍLIA (Reuters) - A nova família de cédulas do real, lançada pelo governo nesta quarta-feira, prepara o país para que a moeda brasileira tenha circulação internacional.
"O real hoje é uma moeda forte... E a moeda só é forte quando reflete a solidez da economia", afirmou o ministro da Fazenda, Guido Mantega, ao apresentar as novas cédulas, ao lado do presidente do Banco Central, Henrique Meirelles.
"Temos que nos preparar para que o real tenha circulação internacional... Para isso, é importante termos papel-moeda sólido, que seja a prova de falsificações."
Meirelles também destacou que a troca das notas, sem que um novo padrão de moeda esteja sendo introduzido como ocorreu várias vezes no passado, é um sinal importante da estabilização da economia.
"Desta vez no Brasil a mudança na família de moedas veio dentro de um critério de continuidade, de estabilização, e não de uma mudança no padrão da moeda. Isso é muito importante", disse Meirelles.
"Outro dado da maior importância é que, como consequência da estabilização da economia brasileira, o real cada vez mais começa a ser uma reserva de valor e passa a ser absolutamente natural que uma parcela da população comece a pensar em manter moeda física em casa."
O lançamento da segunda família de cédulas do real foi aprovada em reunião extraordinária do Conselho Monetário Nacional (CMN). As novas notas entrarão em circulação gradualmente até 2012, mas as cédulas já existentes continuarão valendo até a substituição integral.
